How Adopting a Dog Can Save Your Life

In 2010, Eric O’Grey weighed over 300 pounds, had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and took over $1,000 in medications per month.

When his doctor told him that he would be dead within the next 5 years, he found a naturopathic doctor to help. That doctor gave him some surprising advice. In addition to eating a whole-food, plant-based diet, she encouraged him to adopt a dog.

Following his doctor’s guidance, Eric went to his local Humane Society and asked for an obese, middle-aged dog. He wanted to feel like he wasn’t alone.

After Eric found Peety, he was never alone again.

Watch Eric and Peety’s moving story of fitness, love and loss as told by the Humane Society of Silicon Valley.
