We give Hobbes Goes Home three paws up! It is a touching book based on a real life story that gently talks to children about animal abuse … and the second chance Hobbes finds to become part of a new happy family.
Love. Learning to trust again. Being kind to one another. These are the messages in this brief and beautifully illustrated book that is perfect for elementary school children.
What we also really like about Hobbes Goes Home is that it’s a conversation starter. Hobbes and his buddy, Bruce, visit schools to read the book to children and talk with them about how important it is to be nice to each other. It’s a positive way to address issues like animal abuse and bullying. And another great thing: part of the proceeds from the sale of each book is donated to dog rescue groups.
Bruce and Hobbes are out to change the world, one child at a time. Hobbes Goes Home is part of their effort.
Here are a few pages of the book:
Hobbes was confused. His mommy put him in the car and brought him to a big brown building. they went inside and she handed him to a lady he had never seen before.
Hobbes’ mommy gently touched his head and said he would be safe here, and the mean man couldn’t hurt him anymore. She told Hobbes not to worry, and that a new mommy would come soon. Hobbes’ mommy said goodbye.
Hobbes watched as she walked out of this strange building. He wondered where his mommy was going, and would she come back? What if he didn’t like the new mommy? Hobbes was afraid.
A few days went by, and Hobbes missed his mommy. He got to see a lot of people, and they were friendly! He was still scared, but he started to feel better.
Hobbes got two meals a day, and he had snacks, too! Hobbes love to eat – it was one of his favorite things to do. He loved people crackers the best!
