Puppy Mill Dog Rescued From Crate That Was Rusted Shut

Meet Billy, a puppy mill dog who was locked in his cage for so long that the door had rusted shut.

During a raid on a North Carolina puppy mill, The Humane Society of the United States found Billy, a Chihuahua who had been living in a tiny dog crate for years.

Billy had no access to clean food or water. He deformed jaw and was severely underweight.

“When I got this little guy out, he laid his head on my shoulder, and at that moment I felt responsible for him, said Billy’s rescuer, Adam Parascandola. “And I felt responsible for making sure he was never going to have to suffer like that again.”

After safely rescuing all of the dogs from the puppy mill site, Parascandola decided to take Billy home.

“This little guy, despite all he had been through, really very quickly, his whole personality came out, and it was so wonderful to see what a character he is.”

“He makes me laugh each and every day. I just love him.”

Sadly, Billy passed away in December of 2013. According to the Humane Society, living in a puppy mill destroyed Billy’s body, and he passed away from complications stemming from years of untreated medical conditions.

While Billy’s story had a sad ending, he left behind a legacy of hope. If you’d like to honor Billy’s memory, consider donating to The Humane Society of the United States and help put a stop to puppy mills.
